Faction Media claims winter title in OT

LAKEWOOD, Colo — Clockwork Orange and Faction Media took the inaugural West Denver Hockey League championship game into overtime before Steve Dwyer scored Faction’s seventh goal of the game to win, 7-6 at Foothills Ice Arena on Monday night. [Game Box Score]

Clockwork’s Ed Tokarski and Jason Cooper opened the scoring with Tokarski’s power play goal at 12:56 in the first on Faction defenseman Randy Howlett’s interference minor penalty. Two and a half minutes later Faction’s Marc Offut took a feed from line mate Craig Graham to tie the game. A minute later, Offut added an unassisted score to give Faction a 2-1 lead going into the second period.

Faction co-captain Howlett added an unassisted goal and stretched Factions lead to 3-1 at 10:35 in the second period.

Clockwork’s offense surged with four unanswered goals in the second. Peter Kubik scored with an assist by Steve Larzelere at 8:12. Nine second later WDHL goals-leader Darin Smith, of Clockwork, scored from Tokarski who then completed his hat trick with goals at 6:02 and 3:10 to give Orange a 5-3 advantage.

Faction narrowed Orange’s lead at 13:46 in the third with Offut’s third goal of the game coming from a John Matthew assist. Howlett added a power play goal on Orange’s Tokarski hooking minor.

Orange defenseman Paul Schuette capitalized on Jon Pagnozzi’s holding penalty with a goal from Justin Starr and Darin Smith at 8:49 to give Orange a 6-5 lead with half a period remaining.

Offut tied the game at 2:25 on with a power play goal assisted by Howlett and Dywer off Orange’s Kubik’s tripping minor. Regulation time expired with the teams deadlocked, 6-6.

Overtime saw each team record one shot on goal as Faction’s Dyer slipped a wrist shot from the high slot past Clockwork goalie Robert Bolan at 2:51 to give Faction the league title.
